The siamese cat

The Siamese is one of the world’s most ancient breeds, because the first description of a cat with their characteristics goes back to 1350.
This cat originates from the Kingdom of Siam, present-day Thailand. In fact, the ancient variety of this breed is known as “Thai”. The modern variety came to England from Thailand in 1890, and it is this one that has prevailed as the current breed standard.

This is a very elegant cat, medium-sized and with a well-toned body. What is most recognisable is their colouration: a light body with pigmented areas on the face, the ears, the paws and the tail. Their coat is fine, silky and with barely any fluff. A slim, lengthened nose, a fairly flat skull, large pointed ears and almond-shaped intense blue eyes.

They love to miaow and purr to show how they are feeling and to communicate. It is said that Siamese cats are naturally affectionate, although, as good cats, they are independent and will never surrender to our will. They are very inquisitive, even with strangers. On the other hand, cats of this breed tend to be very attached to the family, which means that it is possible that they will very frequently demand attention. Their home represents their haven, so they will not be good at all at accepting house moves. Furthermore they are very territorial, and as a result they may not accept other cats very well.

Basic care for their health includes frequent brushing and appropriate food based around dry food that prevents obesity.
The most common health disorders that this breed suffers are squints, knots on their tail vertebrae, breast adenocarcinoma, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and hydrocephalus. However, frequent checks by the vet will allow us to prevent these conditions and treat them in time.
