Frequently Asked Questions

A kitten’s feeding frequency changes as it grows. According to the recommendations cited by Advance in the article “How many times a day does a cat eat? The 6 things you need to know”, the recommendation is:

  • Up to 6 months of age: 3 meals a day.
  • Between 6 months and 1 year: 2 meals a day.

These recommendations help meet the higher energy and nutritional needs of the growth stage. In addition, it is always recommended to check the nutritional information table for each product and, if in doubt, consult a veterinarian.

The amount of food a kitten needs each day depends on factors such as age, sex, weight and activity level. Therefore, Advance recommends always following the recommended amounts indicated on the product packaging. The recommended amounts of Advance Kitten dry food are:

Female kittens:

  • From 2 to 3 months: 40–45 g per day.
  • From 4 to 5 months: 50–55 g per day.
  • From 6 to 12 months: 55–60 g per day.

Male kittens:

  • From 2 to 3 months: 45–55 g per day.
  • From 4 to 5 months: 65–70 g per day.
  • From 6 to 12 months: 70 g per day.

If dry and wet food are combined through mixed feeding, the daily amount should be adjusted according to the specific product recommendations.

If mixed feeding is offered, combining dry and wet food, Advance recommends giving 1 pouch of Kitten Chunks in Gravy (with turkey or chicken) and adjusting the amount of Kitten dry food according to the kitten’s age:

  • Kittens between 2–3 months: 1 pouch of wet food + 20–40 g of dry food.
  • Kittens between 4–5 months: 1 pouch of wet food + 35–50 g of dry food.
  • Kittens between 6–12 months: 1 pouch of wet food + 40–50 g of dry food.

Mix feeding can provide a greater variety of flavours and increase moisture intake. For this purpose, Advance Kitten dry food can be combined with Advance Kitten Chunks in Gravy with Turkey or Advance Kitten Chunks in Gravy with Chicken.

These amounts may vary depending on the kitten’s weight, activity level, growth rate or body condition. Therefore, it is advisable to regularly monitor the kitten’s physical condition, adjust the portion when necessary and always consult the recommended feeding table for each product.

Kittens have different nutritional needs from adult cats because they are still growing. They need more energy and a diet adapted to the proper development of their muscles, bones and cognitive abilities.

Therefore, kitten-specific food should provide essential nutrients such as proteins, amino acids, vitamins and minerals in appropriate amounts for this stage of life.

Kitten food is designed to meet nutritional needs throughout the growth stage. According to the recommendations used by Advance, this stage lasts until approximately one year of age.

To know when to change a kitten’s type of food, it is important to consider whether the kitten has reached adulthood and whether it has been sterilized or not. Non-sterilized kittens should continue eating food from the Kitten range until 12 months of age; from that point onwards, they can switch to adult cat food.

If the kitten is sterilized before turning one year old, however, it can switch to food adapted to this stage, such as Advance Sterilised Junior. Sterilization is usually recommended from 6 months of age, although the age may vary depending on each cat.

Advance offers complete and balanced food options for kittens in different formats, adapted to their nutritional needs:

  • Advance Kitten wet food, such as Chunks in Gravy for kittens in flavours such as chicken or turkey.
  • Advance Kitten dry food: a daily food formulated to meet the nutritional needs of kittens from 1 to 12 months of age. It incorporates Active Defense technology, a combination of prebiotics and fibres that helps maintain a healthy intestinal microbiota and strengthen the cat’s natural defences.

Advance dry food recipes contain selected high-quality ingredients to provide complete and balanced nutrition. These include:

  • Animal protein sources such as chicken or salmon.
  • Highly digestible rice and whole grains.
  • Vitamins and minerals.
  • Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

In addition, the recipes are formulated to meet the nutritional needs of this stage of a cat’s life, as are the other Advance products.

Advance wet kitten food is made with high-quality, steam-cooked ingredients and comes in the form of easy-to-chew chunks in gravy.

For example, Kitten Chunks in Gravy with Chicken or Turkey contain a combination of essential nutrients, such as proteins, vitamins and minerals, which help support healthy growth and muscle and bone development in kittens between 2 and 12 months of age.

For kittens with specific digestive needs, Advance also offers Advance Veterinary Diets Gastroenteric wet food, formulated with chicken as a selected protein source and highly digestible ingredients. It is recommended for cats of all ages.

Advance’s range of dry kitten food is developed to meet the specific growth needs of this stage of life. Its recipes include:

  • Scientific backing.
  • Animal protein as the main ingredient.
  • High-quality, highly digestible ingredients.
  • Development based on veterinary nutrition expertise.
